Research Insiders

Alternatives, migrations, and what's honest to say about each.

"Alternative" in regulatory software usually means one of three things: a legacy estate being replaced, a mid-market suite filling a niche, or the same platform family with a different component. Here's the map.

By category

  • RIM / regulatory DMS: the live migration is Documentum estates → Veeva Vault RIM, which is why RIM jobs so often mention data migrations. Montrium and similar suites serve smaller sponsors who don't run a Vault estate.
  • eCTD publishing: GlobalSubmit and Lorenz docuBridge lead; EXTEDO eCTDmanager and Liquent InSight keep European and mid-market niches. Skills transfer across them — granularities and validation concepts are shared.
  • eTMF: Vault eTMF is the default, but Wingspan thrives in outsourced TMF services and Florence eBinders on the site side — which is why site-side eTMF experience reads differently on a résumé than sponsor-side.

The honest take

Vendor pages sell "one platform for everything". In practice every estate is a mix, and the people who understand two adjacent systems are the ones who get pulled into migrations — the highest-visibility projects in regulatory IT. That's an interview story worth having.
